It's that time of year again

The most wonderful time of the year.  Time to order seeds for the upcoming year.  It is hard to do when we have had snow for the past 5 days with no sun in sight.  Kinda depressing when all you see is a sea of snow both on the ground and in the air.  However, I need to see past that since some of those seedlings just cannot wait for the snow to disappear. So here I am today placing my order.   Oops, there is a Greenhouse catalog in there too.  Guess santa did not get me a greehouse this year, so I'm on my own now.

On the brighter side of things I can look forward to this.  Yummy, fresh veggies.

Since this picture has been taken, the garden has moved and is twice the size complete with the kiddy patch.  That is how I started gardening.  Every year my mom would leave me a little corner in the garden where I could plant whatever I wanted but I also had to tend to it.  I remember telling my mom, my peas are doing better then yours.  It is a great childhood memory and I hope my children will have the same great memory as I did.

Happy Growing

  2. Thank heavens for garden catalogues arriving in late Fall/early Winter. You're right about that. It's like Stan Rogers sang, about planting another season's promise in the ground. Have fun ordering!

  3. Isn't it exciting? I cannot get enough of the seed catalogs this time of year, I'm afraid :) Your vegetable garden looks wonderful, and I love the idea of giving a child her own spot of dirt, with freedom of choice and responsibility.

It reminds me of Mary in The Secret Garden, "Might I have a bit of earth?"

Although looking at the seed catalogs already has that predictable effect, of me asking hubby to expand my "bit of earth" to fit in more plants ;)

  5. Hi Cheryl! Is it still white in your part of the world? We want that white fluffy stuff so badly here! Well, I want. Not sure about other people. I miss a real winter. Everything is green and wet around my place.... Your vegetable garden is pretty big! I need to combine vegetables and perennials. My boys don't have a separate little plot, but they help me. Digging and eating fresh are their favorite activities. Stay warm!
